A small tornado touched down in west Broward County, damaging a home, while hail as big as golf balls peppered the area between Tamarac and downtown Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

The hail pinged against cars throughout central Broward, though there were no reports of damage to vehicles. It also bounced off office windows and people."It was crazy," said lifeguard Breck Ballou, captain of Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue. "I've seen pea-sized hail before. But this was larger than marbles. It was making a racket, hitting all the cars."
